Article Abstract:
Apollo Tyres is the leader in truck and bus tyres segment. It has posted a net sales of Rs535.32 crore, operating profit of Rs28.68 crore and net profit of Rs14.93 crore in the first half of 1998- 99. The four-month lock-out at its facility at Perambara in Kerala during the year affected the net profit of the company. It plans to increase cross-ply capacity to 42,000 tyres per month and radial tyres capacity to 57,000 tyres per month. It is setting up a 8,500 radials per month line in its facility at Perambara. It has high floating stock as the public holding is 36.2 percent and financial institutions 16 percent. (rk)

The tyre manufacturer, JK Industries Ltd (JIL) posted a net profit of Rs5.2 crore for the second quarter of 1998-99. It registered sales of Rs320 crore and operating profit of Rs36.48 crore. It has declared an interim dividend of 10 percent on preference shares. JIL has improved its market share despite the recession in the automobile sector. (vv)
