RAIN INDUSTRIES FIRMS UP PLANS FOR $1.95-BN PROJECT

The government of Andhra Pradesh has agreed to most of the concessions sought by Rain Industries Ltd of the US to set up a $1.95 billion integrated industrial complex near Visakhapatnam. The company plans to set up a export-oriented complex consisting of a 9 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) petroleum refinery, a 150,000 mtpa aluminium smelter and a 125,000 mtpa carbon anode unit. The complex will also have a 500 mw co-generation unit. The Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation Ltd is willing to allot 950 acres of land to the company at the Parwada Industrial Development Area. Rain Industries has been given in- principle permission to construct a single-buoy mooring at Muthyalampalem to receive vessels up to 200,000 dead weight tonnage. (khr)

STPI TO SET UP EARTH STATION IN MYSORE
Article Abstract:
The Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) plans to establish satellite earth station in Mysore. The earth station will have a capacity of 2 MB. It will assist software units located within a radius of 30 kms. The earth station is expected to be operational by the end of September 1998. It will provide direct uplinking facilities to customers in Mysore and help in faster data communication. The earth station is expected to expected to attract several software development companies to Mysore. It will cater to the needs of 20-30 customers who require a 64 kilobyte per second link. (gs)

The Pimpri-Chinchwad New Township Development Authority has set up a software development complex at Chikhali village, near Pune. It consists of three large buildings housing over a 100 production blocks. The unit can accommodate around 4,000 software professionals. The software park will provide amenities like housing, educational institutions, shopping malls and entertainment centres. (gsh)
