The Khmer Rouge claims it will join the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia's (UNTAC) demilitarization program as soon as the Vietnam-backed Hun Sen regime cedes power. UNTAC and other Cambodian factions worry that the Khmers Rouges are using the Paris peace accord as a political tool.

Cambodia's Khmer Rouge (KR) guerrillas appear to be abandoning their commitment to UN-sponsored elections. The KR office in Phnom Penh was closed on Apr 13, 1993, five days after KR operatives killed UN election volunteer Atsuhito Nakata.
