Wealth and power
Article Abstract:
China ranks seventh in terms of world economic powers, though it is still poor in terms of per capita income, and there are few world-class Chinese companies. The Chinese army is in need of modernization. China blames outsiders for many of its problems, but there is little recognition of domestic divisions and the problems that these have caused. Political reform is possible, as is shown by the example of Taiwan, though the Chinese leadership fears this type of change.
