Recyclable waste collection planning- a case study
Article Abstract:
A study of planning vehicle routes for recyclable waste collection of center-littoral region of Portugal is described. As per the requirements the problem is solved from three different angles: division of geographic zones to be covered, the type of waste to be collected, and the routes to be taken by the vehicles to cover the zones. The study proves that proper planning provides cost effective solutions for urban waste collection.

Choosing a solid waste management system using multicriteria decision analysis
Article Abstract:
The ELECTRE III decision-aid was used to choose a solid waste management system for the Oulu region, Finland, in 1993. The selection process used multicriteria decision analysis. The Electre III method was highly effective, particularly when handling environmental problems and when the outcomes of several alternatives remained vague. The study showed that the proper landfill capacity available in the planning should be filled up.
