Picking winners
Article Abstract:
The International Monetary und (IMF) has not found a relacement for the managing director, Michel Camdessus, who has left his post. It is important to find the right candidate for the job due to the need for redefinition of the role of the IMF. The tradition of selecting a European for the post, the influence of nationalism, and the requirement for a consensus all hamper efforts to find a replacement. The tradtion could end, majority voting could be introduced, and countries could be restricted to nominating nationals from other nations.
