Sucre La production fran aise 97/98 est en hausse de 12,6% 5 MT
Article Abstract:
According to FIRS, the French group concerned with intervention and regulation of the sugar market, 1997/8 sugar production was up 12;6% compared to 1996/7, at 5mn tons. This major rise is due to a 13.7% rise in sugar beet production to 4.752mn tons, whereas the production of sugar cane fell 4.5%. The record production of 11.29 tons per hectare has caused the rise in sugar beet production. According to FIRS, French sugar consumption has risen 10% between 1968 and 1998. The reduction in the consumption of sugar used directly by consumers is compensated by an increased usage by the food industry according to FIRS.
