Revamping the central bank
Article Abstract:
Chinese government officials are planning to launch a number of reform measures to the People's Bank of China in an attempt to improve its ailing financial sector. The reform program would also seek to introduce modifications in the bank's lending requirements and address government bureaucracy issues. Some of the changes will include the adoption of a US-oriented central banking system, provision of greater autonomy to state-run commercial banks and scrutiny of unofficially sanctioned financial activities.

Foreign companies in China are postponing decisions in anticipation of changes following the country's proposed bureaucratic restructuring. Foreign executives are struggling to learn how the elimination and consolidation of over 12 ministries will influence policies. Nonetheless, various businesspeople are confident that in the long run, the reforms will diminish the government's meddling in their firms. Hence, red tape and corruption will be reduced.

China will unchain cooperatives to help revitalize banks
Article Abstract:
The Chinese government intends to initiate reforms to revitalize its straggling banking system. The government will establish several new commercial banks in 35 major cities to provide financial services to its growing entrepreneurial class. Moreover, it plans to encourage foreign companies to use swap markets for transactions concerning foreign currencies.
