Rolling stone
Article Abstract:
Reconstructed stone cladding has many advantages but is only slowly regaining favour with architects. The poor quality concrete buildings of the 60s have affected architects' perception of concrete and artificial stone. However, the product has been used on recent prestigious buildings and is being promoted by the Architectural Cladding Association. Reconstructed stone is a specially formulated concrete which is very strong, more durable than real stone and has good insulation and fire protection qualities.

Stone clad colossus
Article Abstract:
Architect, Terry Farrell and Company used reconstructed precast stone cladding in its Vauxhall Cross building in London, England. Reconstructed stone is economical while giving the same impression of weight as real stone. The architects studied the manufacturing process before specifying the cladding panels as the size of the building presented problems of colour and finish consistency. Empire Stone won the contract.

A retractable clad cinema screen
Article Abstract:
The new Galeri building has an auditorium designed for cinema, theatre or concert use and to allow this degree of flexibility, the cinema screen is constructed from a rigid steel frame that can be raised out of sight automatically or, alternatively, rotated and used as an acoustic reflector.
