Thank you, Jacques Santer
Article Abstract:
Former Italian prime minister, Romano Prodi, has been invited to become president of the European commission following the resignation of Jacques Santer. The European parliament will be able to veto the appointment of a president for the commission, and Prodi may decide to be appointed in May, under the new regulations. Meanwhile, there are still negotiations to be carried out on contribution to the European Union (EU) budget, farm subsidies and funds for poorer parts of the European Union.

Article Abstract:
European Commission Pres Romano Prodi is increasingly being blamed unfairly for the European Union's supposed lack of momentum and direction. Prodi also suffers by being compared with former Commission president Jacques Delors.
