Rooikat in line for IST autotracker upgrade trials
Article Abstract:
South African company IST's autotracker is to be tested aboard a Vickers OMC Rooikat 8x8 reconnaissance vehicle. The autotracker is also being used in the Rooivalk attack helicopter and in the Swiss Army's Dragon Robot missile control system. It uses field-programmable gate arrays and digital signal processors to carry out centroid or correlation tracking algorithms. The Rooikat can be equipped with either a GT4 76mm or 105mm rifled gun, using an LIW GT12 120mm 50-caliber smoothbore ordnance system.

Focusing firepower for the future
Article Abstract:
The introduction of futuristic electrically propelled armament systems aboard next-generation armored platforms are expected among plans of the US, UK and Germany no earlier than 2015-20. The perceived pattern of tank gun and ammunition development is reminiscent of the surge in accelerated electrical gun efforts on the latter phases of the Cold War. Meanwhile, near-term development efforts are confined to optimizing the performances achieved within the conventional solid propellant 120/125mm guns fitted to most current tanks.
