Russian firms plan mobile push

Russian mobile phone companies, including OAO Mobile TeleSystems (MTS), OAO Vimpel Communications, and OAO Telecominvest, are planning a big push for mobile phones. The companies feel that regional expansion will help them obtain the Russian market for mobile phones. The firms have begin work on wireless networks that will eventually link all of Russia.

Nokia Corp.'s market share has dropped from 35% to 29% due in large part to its focus on developing and producing smart phones, which have proved too expensive and cumbersome for consumers. Firms that have instead produced midrange cellphone models have enjoyed a boost in market share.
