SAIL PUTS 4 POWER PLANTS ON THE BLOCK
Article Abstract:
Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) wants to sell 4 of its captive power plants aggregating 750 mw and has approached national Thermal Power Corporation in this regard. The units are a 2x60 mw plant at Durgapur, 3x60 mw, 2x55 mw and 12 mw at Bokaro, 2x60 mw, 4x25 mw at Rourkela and 2x55 mw at Bhilai. This is in line with the company's plans to hive off all non-core activities. These power plants meet just about 60 percent of SAIL's power requirement of 800 mw due to many of the plants having a low plant load factor. SAIL will also be able to reduce its debt obligations from the proceeds of the sale. (khr)
