SAP issues a profit warning for 1998 as Japan postpones software orders
Article Abstract:
SAP AG posted a 15% increase in its pretax profits for 1998. This was only half the rate that the company, the largest manufacturer of business software in the world, had predicted for the period. SAP posted the figure following the major fall in sales in Japan during the 1998 fourth-quarter. The company attributed its lower-than-expected profits to a surprising shortfall of 200 million marks ($120.9 million) in Japan.

SAP shares fall 6.7% on news that sales have been 'sluggish.'
Article Abstract:
SAP AG saw its share value drop by 6.7% in Frankfurt following reports of the company's "sluggish" performance in the first quarter of 1999. The software firm also said that its revenue for the first-half of 1999 could fall below its targets for the entire 1999 year. The unexpected downturn in the enterprise software market has hurt SAP. The company has been affected by a saturated market and techonology expenditure freezes.
