SOUTH AFRICAN BREWERIES TO SET UP JV IN INDIA WITH MAJORITY STAKE

South African Breweries, the biggest industrial group of South Africa, is foraying into the Indian market with a majority stake in a joint venture company. The company, which owns brands like Castle Lager, Lion Lager and Carling Beer, plans to expand operations in India by acquiring loss-making breweries. It plans to have a production capacity of over one million hectolitres within seven years. The company has entered into a joint venture with Narang Industries Ltd and Hallvard Ltd to manufacture and distribute its brands in India. Sources say that the joint venture company will acquire the existing 125,000 hectolitre beer manufacturing facility of Narang Industries at Nawabganj in Uttar Pradesh. (khr)

KELTRON, TATA INFOTECH LAUNCH GIS

Tata Infotech and the Kerala State Electronics Development Corporation Ltd (Keltron) have entered into a joint venture. The joint venture will provide a range of business solutions including geographical information systems (GIS), imaging solutions and decision support systems. GIS will meet the mapping requirements of government departments like irrigation, electricity board and town planning. The joint venture will provide total solutions in the identity card business including smart cards, bar coding and magnetic coding. The technology will enable instant issuance of cards. It uses aesthetic plastic cards which are durable and flexible. (ag)

AMRIT AVIATION TO LAUNCH ATOs IN SOUTH INDIA

Amrut Aviation Services Limited (AASL) of Hyderabad has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Archan Airways Limited (AAL), to launch air taxi operations (ATOs) in South India. AAL is the representative of LET aS of the Czech Republic. AASL plans to initially purchase three 17-seater L-410 UVP-E9 turbopop aircraft from LET aS on a deferred payment basis. All the three aircrafts will be based in Hyderabad in the initial stages of the operations. F5lights will be operated from Hyderabad to Bangalore, Tirupati, Chennai, Vizag, Vijayawada, Pune, Rajahmundry and Puttaparthi. The whole project is estimated to cost Rs17.78 crore. (gsh)
