SPIC POSTS RECORD TURNOVER, PAT UP 8.7%

Southern Petrochemical Industries Corporation (SPIC) posted a record turnover of Rs2,133.17 crore for 1997-98. SPIC is the flagship company of the MA Chidambaram Group. Its net profit increased by 8.7 percent to Rs78.96 crore. Spic plans to focus on agri-business. It proposes to hive off its LPG and Smo division. Turnover from urea is estimated at Rs325 crore, di-ammonium phosphate at Rs Rs804 crore, pesticides Rs40 crore, shipping Rs54 crore, SPIC-Smo Rs22.66 crore, LPG Rs64 crore and pharmaceuticals Rs100 crore. Nagarjuna Fertilisers and Chemicals Limited (NFCL) posted sales of Rs795.88 crore in 1997-98. Its net profit was Rs122.10 crore. It declared a dividend of 18 percent for 1997-98. It completed its Rs970 crore expansion project. The project involved doubling the production capacity of its plant in Kakinada. The commercial production in this expanded facility started on March 19, 1998. Consequently, it has become the largest manufacturer of urea in southern India. NFCL issued 15,400,000 equity shares to financial institutions as per the loan pacts signed by it with the institutions. (ag)

IFFCO NET UP 163.7%, TO PAY 16% DIVIDEND

Iffco, a cooperative fertiliser company has recommended a dividend of 16 percent for 1997-98. During this period, it posted a net profit of Rs438.85 crore (Rs166.41 crore during 1996-97) and a pre-tax profit of Rs474.53 crore (Rs201.02 crore). It produced 41.60 lakh tonnes of fertilisers (28.76 lakh tonnes). Iffco's future plans include a grassroot fertiliser plant at Nellore in Andhra Pradesh, rise in production capacity and forming joint ventures outside India. (ag)
