BUDGET IMPACT: CONSUMER NON-DURABLES
Article Abstract:
The 13 percent excise duty on consumer non-durable goods like x- ray films, ice-cream, condensed milk, pasta/cornflakes and watches above Rs850 has been increased to 16 percent in the budget of the Government of India for 1999-2000. The 15 percent excise duty on razor blades and footwear has been raised to 16 percent. SmithKline Beecham will benefit from the reduction in excise duty on malted foods. Nestle India will benefit from the reduction in excise duty on noodles, instant coffee and chocolates. Tata Tea will benefit from the reduction of excise duty on packaged tea. Hindustan Lever and Cadburys India will benefit from the reduction in excise duty on fast moving consumer goods (FMCG). The FMCG companies will be paying 10 percent additional surcharge on the corporate tax. (rk) (kvr)

Venkateshwara Hatcheries has a nationwide network of 38 layer and 38 broiler associate hatcheries and 156 broiler integrated hatcheries. The Rs500 crore group has indigenised the Babcock and Cobb breeds and placed India on the world poultry map. The group operates in all the areas of the poultry industry, from research on eggs and birds to farming and processing. It also manufactures equipment required to set up poultry farms and units.
