The International Monetary Fund and World Bank are meeting in Washington and the event is attracting protesters. Labor unions, students and activists are involved in the protests. They are divided on how development issues should be tackled, and their views on globalization are not shared by most Americans.

There have been protests over the World Bank and International Monetary Fund meetings in Washington, and there was greater preparedness, so less damage occurred than with previous similar protests in Seattle. Protesters did noit always have coherent reasons for their actions.

Bored meetings
Article Abstract:
Currency issues are expected to dominate the 1992 meetings of the World Bank and the IMF in Washington, DC. The position of Switzerland in the two organizations had been an issue of concern, but it has been resolved in advance of the meetings.
