Secrets of Georgian city planning
Article Abstract:
The city of Sheffield, England, houses the remains of a remarkable example of Georgian town planning. The development occurred on land owned by the Duke of Norfolk who decided, in the late 18th century, that the newly-rich industrialists would be interested in a stylish residential area. He commissioned James Paine to develop a plan for the area and the type of houses it would contain. The resulting plan was based on an orthogonal grid with plots of varying sizes. The plan was never fully realised for a number of reasons but the plans and development are of historical interest.

Article Abstract:
Famous Victorian architect Edward Prior was one of the leading lights in the Arts and Crafts Movement, which experimented with a wide range of building styles and techniques in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. One of his most famous buildings is Home Place in Norfolk, which was completed in 1906. Prior's determination to ensure high quality building methods and materials for the project led to the employment of a master craftsman to oversee the construction process.
