Shame in Myanmar
Article Abstract:
Myanmar opposition leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, was told that she should visit her sick husband, Michael Aris, and he was refused a visa to see her in Myanmar by the rulers of that country. She was unwilling to leave for fear that she would not be permitted to return. The ruling junta has portrayed her as a foreigner, and the press uses her husband's name to describe her, rather than her other name which includes the name of her father, Aung San, a hero of Myanmar's independence. She is also portrayed as stubborn, but this stubborness offers hope to Myanmar.
