Shannon recovers passenger throughput

Ireland's Shannon Airport has opened a new IR40 million terminal which has coincided with the increase in its passenger throughput. Total throughput has increased back to 2.2 million. Traffic from the months of Jan to Mar 2000 has increased 20% annually while traffic composition has changed from 50:50 transit to 75% O&D. The new terminal has doubled capacity to 4.5 million and includes new improvements such as upgrading to CAT II status, improved lighting, apron expansion and fiber optic communications technology.

Aer Rianta opts for flotation to fund investment programme
Article Abstract:
Irish airports authority Aer Rianta is to be semi-privatized at government level. Ministry for Public Enterprise Mary O'Rourke explained that the proposed 30% IPO is intended to be a means to access funds for reinvestment in Irish airports. Aer Rianta is spending IR360 million on investments in its Shannon, Cork and Dublin airports. It remains committed to its core businesses of airports and retailing at home and abroad.

Tampa tops passenger poll
Article Abstract:
The Tampa International Airport in Florida is the leading US airport in terms of customer service, according to two surveys. A survey commissioned by airlines and aircraft makers ranked Tampa as the best US airport, based on interviews with 90,000 passengers at 36 metropolitan airports. Tampa is currently developing a master plan to accommodate a projected hefty increase in passenger and cargo traffic.
