Side effects of absolute weight bounds in DEA models

Article Abstract:

Effects of incorporating absolute weight bounds for input and output weights in the classical models of data envelopment analysis (DEA) are investigated. It is observed that a DEA model with such limitations may not maximize the relative efficiency of the evaluated decision making unit (DMU) and many not find the set of weights representing the evaluated DMU in the best light compared to the other DMUs. To avoid these 'side effects,' a maximin DEA model, similar to the classical DEA model, is to be utilized.

Productivity and customer satisfaction in Swedish pharmacies: a DEA network model

Article Abstract:

A Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) network model that takes into account customer satisfaction in efficiency and productivity measures is presented. The network is composed of a production mode and a consumption node and provides flexibility in modeling the production and consumption activity where a specific allocation of input resources to production and customer oriented activities by a company is allowed. The suggested model is used on a sample of pharmacies in Sweden.

An enhanced DEA Russell graph efficiency measure

Article Abstract:

A new Global Efficiency Measure (GEM) based on the Russell Graph Measure of Technical Efficiency which avoids the computational and interpretative difficulties with the latter measure is presented. Called Enhanced Russell Measure (ERM), the new measure is a nonradial and nonoriented efficiency measure. The advantages of ERM, such as its ability to represent a solution for the problem of nonzero slacks when measuring efficiency through DEA models, are discussed.
