An island of stability
Article Abstract:
Singapore is traditionally viewed as a safe haven for investors seeking solid gains, but in the first quarter of 2001 that view changed when the market's main index fell more than the others in Southeast Asia. Nevertheless, Singapore is safer than many other places because of its strongly capitalized banks, well-regulated financial system, and stable and credible courts. Analysts' perceptions of the Singapore market are discussed.

Singapore appears to score in bid to challenge Hong Kong: effort to catch up as financial center includes lower business costs, tax breaks, cuts in red tape
Article Abstract:

Also, Singapore is doubling efforts to make the country the equity-trading center of Asia by focusing more on supervision rather than on regulations.
