'Soft firings' distinguish renren in goodwill department

Hong Kong Internet company renren.com laid off a third of its employees through soft firings, a human resource technique that provided Anthony Cheng's displaced employees with benefits such as extra compensation and outplacement services. In order for soft firings to be widely practiced in Asia, companies have to reorganize their human resources departments.

Yahoo! buys Taiwan portal
Article Abstract:
Yahoo! Inc. will acquire Taiwan-based Kimo.com in an all-stock transaction valued at more than $146 million at Yahoo's current share price. The transaction marks one of Yahoo's biggest purchases in the Asian region and will help the company expand markets in China, as well as securing the four million registered users of Kimo.com.
