Some analysts are ready to bet on Sungei Way Holdings: possible venture with British construction giant Hanson raises hopes for Malaysian company
Article Abstract:
Malaysian stock market observers are giving the shares of Sungei Way Holdings a 'buy' rating for long term investment, despite the company's 1.1 bil ringgit debt load. Sungei Way accumulated its large debt load due to the Asian currency crisis which delayed payments amounting to 250 mil ringgit, postponed its toll-road projects and slashed the value of its 23% stake in Gopeng, a Malaysian construction company. The joint venture agreement with Hanson will assure Sungei Way of investments between 200 mil ringgit to 300 mil ringgit in return for Hanson's 40% stake in Sungei Way.

PDB gets a rude awakening: stock is shaken by Malaysia's steady-price system
Article Abstract:
Malaysian-owned gasoline firm Petronas Dagangan (PDB) realized that the Automatic Pricing Mechanism, a fixed-price system which fixes margins for retailers, does not guarantee a steady margin in the face of fluctuating oil prices. The company saw its profits fall to 8.2% from the previous year despite an 11% increase in revenue due to decreases in its share price which ended 1996 at 6.50 ringgit. Analysts say that a further decline in PDB's stock price opens an opportunity for investors to buy PDB shares.

Expected fall may benefit Johnson Electric holders
Article Abstract:
Analysts predict that the share price of Johnson Electric Holdings Ltd. will go down when the company comes out with its latest financial report. However, they also believe that this decrease in price will be a good opportunity for shareholders given the company's history of strong recoveries. The company's long term prospects are excellent as many of the factors which put pressure on its profit margins have largely disappeared.
