Sounding the design drum
Article Abstract:
The headquarters building designed by Architects Rod Robinson Associates for computer systems specialists Evesham Micros comprises two distinct parts. The warehouse section is aluminium-clad, windowless and functional, but the office section is an airy, open-plan building which has been designed to impress. The site was an uninspiring business park with no architectural reference point. The architects have tried to create interesting internal features, including a tall, bridge-crossed, drum-shaped entrance and an internal street, but the setting and outlook are disappointing.

Selling cars with good design
Article Abstract:
Aaron Evans Associates has designed a stylish car showroon for Morning Star Motors in Chippenham, England. The building is set back from the road to accomodate planning restrictions but is raised above pavement level. It has a curved glass fronted showroom with workshops and offices behind. There is also a outside display and parking area. The building is essentially basic, and is not impressive from the approach road. However, the curved front is masterly and the whole gives an impression of efficiency and cleanliness.

The building is intended to break down barriers between staff and patients while retaining an atmosphere of professionalism and confidentiality. A sloping site is used to advantage with the building becoming part of the landscaping giving a natural progression from car park to entrance and reception area. The doctors were closely involved with the design of the consulting rooms and both staff and patients are pleased with the result.
