South Africa to protect more zones
Article Abstract:
South Africa's plan to introduce five marine protected areas (MPAs) in its existing protection zone coastline list would result in a coastline-protected area of 19%. The Namaqualand MPA, which would protect the cool temperate habitats on South Africa's northwest coast and provide undisturbed reference sites against which impact of mining and dredging could be assessed, is the largest marine protected area covering over 9700 sq. km.
