Hydroelectrica takeover battle ends as RWE bows out of competition

RWE AG, a German utility, withdrew from the bidding for Spain's Hidroelectrica del Cantabrico S.A., making way for negotiations concerning the takeover of Spain's smallest power firm. RWE's offer of Euro26 per share was trumped by a joint E27.30 per share bid from Ferroatlantica S.A. and Energie Baden-Wuerttemberg AG.
