Specifier's choice: Great Notley Primary School
Article Abstract:
Architects Allford Hall Monaghan Morris had to consider issues of low maintenance and reduced energy use when designing the Great Notley Primary School for Essex County Council. Architect Simon Allford pointed out they prefer to make very few firm recommendations over materials as the contracter may be able to offer a more competitive price. The windows were doubled glazed, with aluminum sheaf on the external frame to counter the elements. The roof was covered with sedums growing on a mat laid over the underlay. The floor was covered with lino made by Forbo-Nairn.

Big, brave and simple
Article Abstract:
Finnish company Paroc Panel system have built a new manufacturing plant in Merseyside, England, to produce their Paroc Fire Proof Panels. The system is popular with the British construction industry because it can be used on very large buildings, such as stadiums and shopping centres. It is used for ceilings and as external cladding because it combines thermal insulation and is fire and water proof. It can be quickly erected. The material was chosen for the BAA World Cargo warehouse.

God's bunker
Article Abstract:
The Okumenische Kirche in Freiburg, Germany is a new ecumenical church, wherein two great religious rivals of the western world - Catholicism and Protestantism are able to come together in a single building. The two congregations have agreed to open up physically the traditionally sacred zones of their churches in the cause of community gatherings, such as christenings.
