A report by the research corporation MDC Inc advises businesses and governments in the South to train their largely unskilled labor force for high-skilled jobs. Such jobs will grow rapidly during the 1990s, along with jobs in service industries.

Small business, small beer: the economy

The unemployment rate rose 0.7% in June of 1992, as more people became hopeful and returned to the job market. Unfortunately, the work force has increased by 2.2 million since 1991, and only 800,000 new jobs have been created.

Article Abstract:
More jobs were created in the two-month April-May 1993 period than in any similar period since 1990. The resulting dip in US unemployment to 6.9% provides reasonable hopes that the recession has ended.
