Start of the Piers show
Article Abstract:
Piers Gough, newly-appointed President of the Architectural Association (AA), is a consistently entertaining architect who is expected to become more well-known in the future. Gough is a partner in architectural practice CZWG which carried out several highly inventive and high profile projects in London, England, in the 1980s. Gough will head the AA's appeal for its 150th anniversary in 1997, with the appeal partly aimed at raising funds to buy some of the lease on the Bedford Square headquarters to release funds to expand student bursaries.

House-building figures show timber frame coming in from the cold
Article Abstract:
Statistics from the National House-Building Council show that timber frame building is regaining a significant share of the British house building market. In light of the increased demand for this type of construction, the Brick Development Association has revised its design note 'Brick Cladding to Timber Frame Construction'. Timber frame buildings were criticised in the mid 1980s for poor quality but with new technical developments and good design and construction, the method is regaining its position in the housing market.
