Gun system research reshaped for UK combat aircraft
Article Abstract:
The UK Ministry of Defense (MoD) is in the process of reconsidering its research policies on gun systems for military combat aircraft. The availability of advance aircraft systems, such as the Eurofighter Typhoon and the Joint Strike Fighter, has caused the agency to decide whether to continue funding gun research or simply adapt alternative weapons. The MoD allots more than 400 million pounds sterling yearly on military scientific research.

British Army begins vehicle digitization trial
Article Abstract:
The British Army's Armour Trials and Development Unit started a platform-level hands-on digitization trials four years before its initial battlefield digitization systems are set to enter service. So far, two vehicles have been employed for the trials, a Scimitar reconnaissance vehicle and a Warrior infantry fighting vehicle. The Scimitar is fitted with an Avimo SPIRE thermal sight integrated with a KVH TacNav position and navigation system to illustrate the automatic computation of platform-acquired target location data. The Warrior infantry fighting vehicle was configured as a battle-management system demonstrator by GKN.

Steering a new course: light strike vehicles go mainstream
Article Abstract:
The new batches of wheeled light-strike or fast-attack vehicles are being deployed in more mainstream military units having air-mobile or amphibious capabilities. Users include the French Army's 11th Parachute Division, the UK 24 Airmobile Brigade and the US Marine Corps (USMC). The development is indicative of a realization of the possible cost-effectiveness of special-forces kind of operations in both crises and warfighting. The vehicles, which are commonly called light-strike vehicles (LSVs), are highly mobile platforms employed to perform attack, patrolling and surveillance functions.
