Striking a balance on disability
Article Abstract:
It has become very common to include features in new buildings which are designed to make them easier for disabled people to use. However, such an approach can often be misguided. In many cases, buildings are very rarely used by disabled people, and special features for them just take up valuable room without being used. In other cases, buildings dismissed as not suitable for use by the disabled are in fact perfectly usable, as long as some degree of assistance is offered.
