The chemical and pharmaceutical industry in Switzerland may recall 1996 to be the year that Ciba-Geigy and Sandoz merged to form Novartis International. The resulting group, with turnover of 36,233 million Swiss francs in 1996, is now the country's 5th-largest business group. Roche, the remaining industry giant, chalked up record turnover of 15,966 million Swiss francs and held the distinction of being the country's most profitable company, with revenues of 3,899 million Swiss francs. Other notable names in the industry are Clariant, Pluss Staufer, Lonza and Galenica Holding.

His office serves as Dow's coordinating center for the Middle East, Africa and Europe, markets which together account for a third of Dow's turnover of over $20 billion. Bobillier's Horgen offices also monitor some 7,900 employees and 30 manufacturing sites. According to Bobillier, Dow Europe's markets are expected to continue growing, with the company's investments in Eastern Europe ensuring a steady increase in revenues in the next 10 years.
