Suez net surged 39% in first half on rising prices

Suez S.A. of France posted a soaring 39 percent increase in first half profit to 2.17 billion Euros ($2.78 billion) from 1.56 billion Euros last year. Revenues were due to increased gas and electricity prices as well as cost reductions. The electric utility is planning a merger with gas utility Gaz de France S.A. although there has been criticism from some shareholders.

Suez S.A. of France posted a soaring net profit increase by 48 percent to 2.5 billion Euros from 1.7 billion Euros last year. The electric utility experienced growth in its energy market share as well as streamlined costs. The energy concern is currently embroiled in a takeover battle between Enel S.p.A. of Italy and Gaz de France.
