Sunlit suspense
Article Abstract:
Crime writers are becoming increasingly popular in Europe, and Jean-Claude Izzo's works are selling well. He writes about Marseilles, where he was born, and examines conditions in parts of the city that are not often exposed to view. Marseilles has long attracted immigrants and is also affected by corruption, poverty, unemployment, racism and drug trafficking. Izzo writes with passion and his characters are likeable, and he embodies and expresses the city's contradictions.
