Edging away
Article Abstract:
The euro has dropped in relation to the US dollar, and this has led to a perception in Britain that the currency has not succeeded. The government appears to be moving away from a commitment to join European monetary union, and both prime minister, Tony Blair, and chancellor, Gordon Brown, place a priority on being re-elected. There are a number of close advisers to Blair who favor joining monetary union, though there are also some who are less committed, and their views may come to carry more weight.
