Super Hornet: stirring-up the F-18 cause
Article Abstract:
The improved design and new electronic systems on Boeing Co's F/A-18E/F Super Hornet fighter aircraft have enable it to perform impressively during its six-month operational evaluation. Because of its successful performance, the Pentagon has approved a full-rate, multi-year production of the aircraft. A multi-year contract is expected to be signed within 2000. The contract will cover production of 36 Super Hornets for FY 2000, 42 for FY 2001 and 48 per year up to FY 2004.

Flights of fancy take shape
Article Abstract:
Future aircraft that are under development will break many rules that currently limit aircraft design and performance. Designing innovative and viable air vehicles is being made possible by advances in computer technology, electronics and materials. Among the latest air vehicle designs are the Frontier Systems A160 unmanned helicopter, Boeing Canard Rotor-Wing attack aircraft and the Lockheed Martin box-wing aircraft.

B-2 is maturing into a fine Spirit
Article Abstract:
Northrop Grumman Corp's B-2 stealth bomber has continued to evolve due to due to upgrades in its block configuration and gains from its operations, such as in Kosovo, Yugoslavia. One important improvement to the B-2 is the its software, called P-1, which includes the Generic Weapon Interface System. Other areas for improvements to the B-2 are in communications and inflight mission planning.
