Sweden: stock exchange merger proposed
Article Abstract:
Sweden's Options Marknad, the leading derivatives exchange in Scandinavia, is offering 11 new shares for every three held in the Stockholm Stock Exchange. The boards of both exchanges have approved the merger, which aims to create a more internationally competitive Nordic financial market. However, it is likely that the merger will be opposed by a number of leading shareholders in the Stockholm Stock Exchange, including the largest three commercial banks in Sweden. In a related development, the Oslo Stock Exchange has rejected an invitation from the Stockholm Stock Exchange.

Growing pains
Article Abstract:
Germany's 'Neuer Markt' initially expanded extremely rapidly, establishing itself as a focal point for high-growth corporate Germany. However, it is now beginning to encounter challenges. There are around 110 companies listed on this market, but only between 20 and 30 are truly top-class. Many observers believe that it will continue to be successful once it has undergone a period of adjustment.
