Switzerland's slippery slope

For years Switzerland had one of the healthiest economies in Europe, with some of the lowest inflation and unemployment rates and one of the strongest currencies in the world. Now the inflation rate is higher than the European average and unemployment has tripled since 1989.

Several of Great Britain's economists are forecasting deeper recession unless the nation rejects the European exchange-rate mechanism. Businessmen and other opponents of such devaluation say interest rates will rise.
