Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company (Telco) suffered a fall in its sales of heavy commercial vehicles (HCVs) at 63,484 units in 1997-98 (111,699 units in 1996-97). Its sales of light commercial vehicles (LCVs) were 42,073 units (57,632 units). It recorded a 30 percent decline in the sales of its cars at 5,121 vehicles (7,413 vehicles). HCV SEGMENT SALES TAKE A 36.4% HIT
Article Abstract:
The heavy commercial vehicles (HCV) segment suffered a fall of 36.47 percent in sales during April-October 1998. Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company (Telco) recorded a negative growth of 16.67 percent in the light commercial vehicles (LCV) sector and 45.10 percent in the HCV segment during the same period. It sold 19,873 LCVs during April-October 1998 (23,847 units in the same period of 1997). It sold 21,940 HCVs (39,966 units). The sales of Ashok Leyland (AL) of HCVs fell by 64 percent at 13,580 units and that of LCVs by 15 percent at 259 units. The sales of LCVs of Eicher Motors (EM) fell by 4.9 percent at 2,715 units. The sales LCVs of Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) fell by 27.58 percent at 2,954 units. (rk)

TELCO POSTS SHARP JUMP IN NOV SALES

Telco sold 5,155 trucks in November 1998 (3,432 trucks in November 1997). It had sold 3,037 trucks in September 1998 and 3,891 trucks in October 1998. It produced 5,455 vehicles in November 1998 (3,265 vehicles in November 1997). Its production increased by 43 percent compared to that in October 1998. Its sales of light commercial vehicles (LCVs) increased from 2,738 vehicles in October 1998 to 4,062 vehicles in November 1998. Telco incurred a loss of Rs54 crore in the first half of 1998- 99. (um)
