TWO FORD UNITS GET VISTEON TAG
Article Abstract:
Ford Motor Company's (FMC) two subsidiaries ACD Automotive India Pvt Ltd (ACDA) and Electrical and Fuel Handling India Pvt Ltd (EFH) in Chennai have obtained new identities. The move is part of FMC's name-changing exercise for Visteon, its automotive systems group. ACDA has been renamed as Visteon Automotive Systems India Pvt Ltd (VASI) while EFH as Visteon Powertrain Control Systems India Pvt Ltd (VPCS). VASI's authorised capital has been hiked by Rs90 crore to Rs140 crore while VPCS's authorised capital has been hiked to Rs100 crore from Rs40 crore. VASI is a joint venture between FMC and Halla Climate Control of Korea. VASI manufactures climate control systems, electronics and plastic components. VPCS is a wholly owned subsidiary of FMC which manufactures starter motors and alternators. Both the firms' plants will be set up at Maraimalainagar near Chennai in Tamil Nadu. (gs)

PMP TIES UP WITH SLOVENIAN CO
Article Abstract:
PMP Components Ltd, a division of Piramal Enterprises, has entered into a technical agreement with Iskra Avtoelektrika of Slovenia to produce starter motors exclusively for the tractor industry. Commercial production is scheduled to begin at its Satara unit by March 1999. The unit will have an initial capacity of 40,000 starter motors in the first phase which will be increased to 90,000 units later. The total cost of the project is estimated at Rs7 crore. (khr)

BEL TIES UP TO BUILD MOTHERBOARDS
Article Abstract:
Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) has tied up with National Semiconductor Corporation to make motherboards for personal computers (PCs). A PC with BEL motherboard is likely to be priced below Rs30,000. The motherboard is priced Rs6,000. It plans to build 250 motherboards a day. It targets sales of Rs3.6 crore from the motherboard business in the first year. BEL has projected a demand of 340,000 PCs in 1998 and 800,000 by 2000 AD. (rk)
