Takeover speculation roils Barclays shares

Shares in British banking giant Barclays PLC have been rising on speculation that it is involved in negotiations for a possible takeover by U.S. financial services company Citigroup Inc. Shares in all British banks have also been on the rise, due to rumours that the market is opening up to cross-border bank deals , a practice seen previously as an unlikely and unfavourable option.
