The European Community is struggling to find the right formula for a new corporate tax code that will remove differences in the tax policies of the individual nations. A committee chaired by former Dutch finance minister Onno Ruding has suggested a minimum 30% and maximum 40% rates.

Cleaning up old pollution
Article Abstract:
The Commission of the European Community must be aggressive in legislating responsibility for cleanup of toxic waste. Unlike the US, Europe should police industry to be sure corporations comply with cleanup regulations and bear the costs of their pollution.

The European Commission passed a directive for the recycling of packaging. Environmental laws that interfere with trade are prohibited. Germany has the strictest waste management law, and exporters complain that it is an impediment.
