Telefonica plans Latin American buyouts

Telefonica S.A. of Spain is planning to acquire full ownership of the four South American telecommunications companies in which it holds a stake. The companies are Telefonica de Argentina, Telefonica dele Peru, and two Brazilian companies: Telecomunicacoes de Sao Paulo and Telesudeste Participacoes.

Spanish government and banks pull the plug on KPN-Telefonica

Telefonica SA's planned 66 billion euros merger with KPN NV of Holland has been terminated by the government of Spain and two Spanish banks. The merger would have formed the fourth-largest telephone firm in Europe.
