Telstra net slides amid discussion of equity offering

Telstra Corporation Ltd. of Australia posted an annual slide in net profit by 26 percent to $3.18 billion Australian Dollars ($2.42 billion) from $4.31 billion Australian Dollars last year. Revenues were due to decreased earnings for fixed line operations, increased competition in cell phone market and $427 million Australian Dollars set aside for job cuts. Telstra Corporation Ltd. is awaiting clearance from the Australian government on a proposed $19 billion privatization bid.

Deutsche Telekom plots expansion

Deutsche Telekom AG of Germany is planning a restructuring by growing foreign markets and upgrading its infrastructure to include internet television. The telecommunications operator posted a net loss of 898 million Euros ($1.19 billion) from a net profit of 991 million Euros last year. Decreased revenues are due to increased market competition by smaller startups in the home market.
