Thailand to upgrade U-Tapao
Article Abstract:
U-Tapao Airport is being upgraded for US$4 million. The international and domestic gateway to the Thai resort of Pattaya is the only civil airport in Thailand that is operated by the Royal Thai Navy. The upgrade is aimed at modernizing air traffic control and security equipment and raising the airport's passenger capacity by about 150%. The upgrade involves terminal works, a weather radar and the existing single chanel monopulse secondary surveillance radar.

Bangalore back on agenda

Indian officials are seeking private partners in the proposed Bangalore International Airport. The Airports Authority of India and the Karnataka State Industrial Investment and Development Corp expect to each hold a 13% equity in the project. The airport will be situated in Devanahalli, around 40 km from Bangalore. The Indian state of Karnataka, whose capital is Bangalore, hopes to become a high technology mecca with the help of the airport.

The Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) began full commercial operations on June 30, 1998 after an overnight transition from KL Subang International. The new airport experienced widespread flight delays due to integration problems encountered by the main airport information systems. KLIA is equipped by a Total Airport Management System that integrates 200 computer rooms and distribution frames and more 20 airport systems.
