The Highland road
Article Abstract:
The Highlands and Islands Alliance is a political party which has been set up in Scotland and aims to win regional seats and consult voters on issues before representatives vote in the new Scottish parliament. The new party also proposes sharing seats as a way to keep in touch with voters living in a sparsely populated area. The government is critical of this proposal, but there may be no legal reason why it cannot be carried out, with job-share candidates appearing for elections to the parliament.

They're off
Article Abstract:
The United Kingdm Labor party appears to hold a lead in the campaign for the Scottish parliament, with 47% compared to 33% for the Scottish national Party (SNP) for the first constituency vote, according to opinion polls. The Labor party is campaigning strongly in Scotland, despite this lead, and this is partly due to concern that the lead could evaporate. There are also problems in running a campaign when there are four parties, and the Labor party could appear to be isolated on some issues.
