The Italian retail market for disposable paper products between 1993 and 1997 is dominated by the personal sector, getting a 48.3% of overall value sales in 1997, at L2,329 bil. The overall value sales of the entire industry in 1997 reached L4,823.6 bil, up 2.6% from that in 1996. procter and Gamble and Kimberly-clark dominate the manufacturing sector with market shares of 34.4% and 20.2% in value terms in 1997, respectively. Supermarkets and hypermarkets are the most important retail distribution outlets for the products.

The disposable paper products market in Netherlands posts a total market value of DFl1,674 million in 1997, down by 5.5% in nominal terms from 1996. Market value, however, posted an 8.3% decrease from 1993 to 1997 compared to market value of DFl 1,825 million in 1993. Total market value also dropped by 16.1% in real terms during the review period. Both the total nominal and real market value in Netherlands are slightly higher compared to the market value in Belgium and Luxembourg during the review period.
