The Spanish pet food market
Article Abstract:
The demand for industrially prepared pet food increased in Spain in 1995 as a result of the inclusion of dogs and cats as members of the family, the growing consumer concern for pet diet and health issues, and competitive pricing in the industry. The market achieved sales of 32,240 million pesetas in 1995. The dog food segment dominated the market, making up 60.6% of the market in value terms in 1995 while the cat food segment, which is one of the least developed, exhibited 68.7% growth from 1991 to 1995. The Spanish pet food and products market is expected to grow by 8.1% between 1995 and 2000.
